Battlefield 1 is the latest instalment made by DICE which takes place during the Great War, more commonly referred to as World War 1. The maps are all based off of areas and battlefields of the historic World War I. The multiplayer game modes that have survived the series are Team Deathmatch, Rush, Conquest, and Domination, but now also include the new game mode known as “Operations”. Operations consists of a 64 vs 64 game where both sides attempt to take and hold objectives, which results in both sides struggling to keep the objectives in their possession. When playing, I would recommend playing with a few friends in a squad, since spawning on an objective and then trying to move to a different objective by foot is an outright pain. To move faster, horses and/or planes are amazing for movement, and the bomber planes are especially fun to fly around in. Alternatively, tanks and motorcycles to assist in facilitating movement, and are both very effective. However, taking down tanks is one of the most impossible and frustrating tasks when being a soldier, and tanks may cause most of the team’s deaths. Additionally, there are plenty of opportunities to defeat the opposing team immediately when the enemy team spawns, which is awfully infuriating. I would not recommend using most sidearms in this game, since most are pretty weak against an enemy armed with most other weapons. However, killing multiple people, though, is not the easiest feat to pull off, and it’s highly likely that two players are too much too handle for one.
On the other hand, the game mechanics are amazing, consisting of the balance of recoil and damage, and the game graphics are also stunning visually. The maps are beautifully designed and aesthetically pleasing, as well as portraying locations from World War I.
Afar from the near impossible tasks of defeating tanks and immediately being killed off occasionally when being spawned, all this definitely doesn’t take away from the game. It is extremely fun to play and provides a great first person shooter for all to enjoy. Battlefield 1 overall is a 9/10.
